Glazes ~ Where art & chemistry meet
I take pride in the rich, layered glaze techniques that have become the signature of both my standard inventory and commissioned pieces. To help our customers order, this reference page displays my common patterns. Please keep in mind that there is a bit of the unknown and uncontrolled involved with the glazing process and no two pieces will look exactly alike. Most patterns are achieved by layering 2, 3, or 4 different, studio made, glazes. Photographs often do not do justice to the depth of color especially as they tend to shift in tonality depending on what kind of light is shining or reflcting on them.
Layered Glaze Patterns
Hand-painted/hand-Drawn/carved patterns
All items in the Hand-Painted patterns are made with devotion to the process. With a multi-phase process to apply hand-painted skylines, carved and glazed inlaid silhouettes, or hand-drawn birch, including wax application and precision glazing, these items take time with a capital T! For that reason, each of these patterns has a slightly higher price tag allowing me the time it takes to create these colorful and playful wares.
While some customers request a completely original design on their commissioned pieces, others desire pieces for their home which come with my signature designs illustrated below. For examples of completely original pieces done to specific customer requests, click here.
