Amanda Amoroso, Founder & Potter
Taking a lesson from our property's resident honey bees, I strive to add to the community around me. My studio was built with energy and water efficiency in mind, using less than 4 gallons of fresh water a week and recycling the gray water as far as it can go, eventually returning it directly to the flowers and trees that fill our land.
Aside from the joy of holding a hand-made ware, chosen for your own delight, pottery made right here in the United States does us a world of good. My aim is to make functional artwork that is affordable, comfortable and brings you happiness with each use. The stoneware and glazes that I use are durable, microwavable, oven and dishwasher-safe.
I will not sell something I do not have faith in, so when my product arrives in your home you will know its beauty and function will stand the test of daily use.
When teaching I aim to help each student achieve the confidence to explore and develop their skills, in a supportive and joyful space. I share all my gained knowledge of the medium, breaking it down into digestible steps so that each student can find success in every class and across the span of years that it takes to hone one's abilities as a potter. My teaching is individually adapted to each student's needs and interests. Creativity, curiosity, and creation are good for the soul, and it is my true pleasure to provide the space and attention to anyone who seeks it.
My History
I am a BFA graduate of The College of Art and Architecture at Pennsylvania State University. Since leaving Happy Valley I had returned to my home state of Rhode Island, where for 10 years I made wonderful friends in the art community of Pawtucket and Providence. While there, my family and I saw the need for more accessible "creator space". Our solution to this was the creation of Mad Dog Artist Studios and Gallery, a multimedia working space for over 50 independent artists. Though I loved the community that emerged out of Mad Dog, opportunities to pursue a life in Maine presented themselves and we took them! I now joyfully work out of my small potter's studio in our home surrounded by trees, flowers, and bees as well as an amazing array of energetic students ages 8-82.
